Bill would require cities to allow electric vehicle charging stations in residential zones

SB 5446 would require cities along most of the state's major highways to allow electric vehicle chargers in residential and multifamily zones. Cities would also be required to offer incentives (height or bulk bonuses, etc.) for chargers in those zones. There is no language speaking to limitations on the commercial application of these charges, and it is unclear whether we would have the authorization to limit that use.

This bill is scheduled for public hearing in the Senate Energy, Environment & Telecommunications Committee at 1:30 pm on Thursday, February 5. AWC will express concerns.
