Making changes to voter approval rates for fire benefit charges

The legislature recently reduced the voter approval threshold for emergency services levies from 60 percent to a majority approval. HB 1486 does the same thing for fire benefit charges by changing the voter approval threshold form 60 percent to a simple majority. This is a bill introduced in the 2013 legislative session, passed the house but did not make it to the floor of the Senate.

The bill is scheduled for a hearing at 10am on February 25 in the Senate Governmental Operations Committee.

AWC supports this legislation and will continue to report on its progress.
