Boeing deal includes funding for planned actions

One element of the “Boeing deal” that has not gotten as much attention as others is the provision of $2 million dollars to the Department of Commerce for grants to cities or counties for paying the cost of upfront environmental review in and around current and future large manufacturing sites for aerospace. We’re in contact with Department of Commerce as they sort out the details and will share them as they become available. The focus on supporting upfront planned actions by the legislature over the last few sessions is encouraging – and it’s being driven by the success of cities who’ve used these tools. For instance the Everett planned action around Paine Field has supported over 5 million square feet of development and 39,000 jobs.
