Hours of availability for inspection and copying of public records

Next week, the Senate Governmental Operations Committee will hear SHB 1418, which allows cities, towns, and special districts that do not maintain office hours for a minimum of 30 hours per week to post directions about how to make public records requests. The directions must be posted at the agency’s headquarters and on the agency’s website, if the agency maintains one. The bill also specifies that an agency is considered to have received the request by its next scheduled meeting or when agency personnel knows a request was made.
