Senate passes amended proposal to establish task force on local business tax and licensing simplification

On Friday, the Senate passed an amended version of the bill establishing a task force to evaluate and recommend options to continue local business tax (B&O) and licensing simplification, HB 2959.

AWC and representatives from a number of cities were concerned about the version passed by the House because it required the task force to prepare legislation implementing the task force’s recommended options in the 2017 legislative session. Before the bill passed the Senate, however, it was amended to require the task force to instead submit a report to the Legislature with recommended options by January 1, 2017. The Senate version also changed the membership of the task force.

Because the bill no longer requires legislation, AWC and other cities that have actively engaged with legislators on this proposal have changed to a neutral position on the bill. Please don’t hesitate to contact AWC’s Victoria Lincoln if you have any questions or need additional information.
