Police body-worn camera bill still on the move

HB 2362 regarding policy body-worn cameras is still alive. It passed the House on February 22 and was heard and passed by the Senate Law & Justice Committee ahead of cutoff. Thanks to Pullman Chief Gary Jenkins, Sedro-Woolley Councilmember Kornegay, and City Supervisor Eron Berg for coming to Olympia to testify about the value of the bill. Thanks also to Liberty Lake Chief Asmus for sending a letter of support.

AWC strongly supports this bill as an important first step in granting greater privacy protections and more clarity about how the video recordings will be treated under the Public Records Act. If your city is using body-worn cameras or is considering implementing them in the near future, please contact your Senator and urge them to support the bill.
