Proposed Senate Supplemental Budget zeroes out MRSC by July 1

The Senate Ways and Means Chair released his proposed supplemental budget with adjustments for the remainder of the 2015-17 biennium. With available revenues not meeting current budget needs, cuts impacting cities are proposed (detailed here), including eliminating $2.8 million funding support to the Municipal Research and Services Center (MRSC). Your voices opposing this are needed now.

MRSC has been serving local governments in Washington for over 80 years. MRSC is a lifeline for medium and small-sized cities and counties that could not afford to contract for this service otherwise. This service is made possible by pooling a small portion of the liquor taxes and revenues that would otherwise be distributed to local governments.

MRSC’s longevity is directly related to the quality of service that they provide. MRSC’s service this year included:

  • 7,150 inquiry requests answered for more than 350 local and state government officials
  • 50,000 research hours logged by 1.4 million web visitors, including state legislative staff
  • 56 trainings conducted for over 4,000 attendees

Please ask members of the Senate Ways and Means Committee to fully fund MRSC. Contact information for committee members is available here.
