Statement from Paul Roberts, President of the AWC, on behalf of the AWC Board Executive Committee, concerning Mr. Patrick Rushing’s Facebook comments

Mr. Patrick Rushing’s comments on Facebook are not consistent with the core beliefs of the Association of Washington Cities (AWC). His behavior in this matter is unacceptable.

The AWC is a private, non-profit, non-partisan corporation that represents Washington's 281 cities and towns before the state legislature, the state executive branch and with regulatory agencies. The AWC also provides training, technical assistance, and programs such as employee benefits, municipal liability and property insurance, employee drug and alcohol testing pooling, and workers comp retro pooling.

The AWC Board of Directors is comprised of 25 members, representing districts and at-large positions elected by the AWC membership. Patrick Rushing has served as the District 1 director, representing 37 cities and towns in six counties in northeast Washington. He was appointed to the board to fill a vacancy in 2014 and was recently elected to a two-year term at the AWC Business Meeting in June 2015.

Among the AWC core beliefs are leadership and diversity. These core beliefs include assisting cities and towns to develop competent and principled elected officials and community leaders, as well as appreciating and recognizing, in all aspects, the diversity of our membership.
