Municipal Budgeting & Fiscal Management Workshop

Co-Sponsored by the Washington Finance Officers Association (WFOA)

The Association of Washington Cities (AWC) and the Washington Finance Officers Association (WFOA) are pleased to offer their annual workshop on municipal budgeting and fiscal management for local elected officials and staff. The economic downturn is forcing local government officials at all levels to review finances with increased diligence. Revenue shortfalls are requiring many municipalities to make tough decisions about funding levels for community priorities and goals.

This workshop guides you strategically through the budgeting process. Do you have the right policies in place? When should you draw from reserves? What budget warning signs should you pay attention to? How can your budget best incorporate your community’s long-term goals? You’ll get a solid introduction to fiscal management and choose from breakout sessions that target varying levels of budgeting abilities.

Attendees will learn:

  • Budgeting roles and responsibilities for staff and elected officials, legal requirements and terminology;
  • Important award-winning budgeting practices;
  • Updates on legislation and policy issues that may impact your budget; and
  • Tips on how to be fiscally accountable to your citizens.

Bring your city’s budget! This training is hands-on, providing practical tips you will apply to your own city’s budget.

The training is designed for elected officials, as well as staff with a role in developing or implementing the budget. City teams of elected officials and staff are encouraged to attend. Counties and special districts may also find this core budget process training helpful.
