AWC’s legislative policy development process is underway!

The Resolutions Committee has prepared six broad policy goals for AWC during the 2011-12 Legislative sessions. The general membership adopted the resolutions during the business meeting at AWC’s Annual Conference in Vancouver on Friday, June 25 at 10:30 am. You can view the resolutions here (pdf).

AWC’s Legislative Committee will now develop specific legislative objectives as guided by the resolutions. The AWC Board of Directors will review and adopt the preliminary legislative priorities in September and a final legislative package in December.

The resolutions adopted in 2010 will remain in place as we enter the second year of the two-year legislative cycle. In 2011, the Legislative Committee will simply revise the legislative agenda for 2012, given action taken in 2011 and the possible addition of new emerging issues, but the resolutions are unlikely to be modified.

The Legislative Committee will meet as a full committee, two times this year, and the individual subcommittees will meet more frequently (either in person or via conference call). The following are the dates for the full committee meetings:

  • Monday, September 27
Main purpose: Finalize preliminary 2011 major legislative priorities to recommend to the board
  • Tuesday, November 16
Main purpose: Finalize complete 2011 legislative priorities to recommend to the board

AWC staff

The AWC staff uses the Statement of Policy and Resolutions as the basis for AWC's legislative positions and seeks adoption of the legislative proposals described in the resolutions.
