AWC Workers' Compensation Retrospective Rating Program
Purpose
Provide cities and towns with expertise and services to lower their L&I claims experience resulting in potential refund of a portion of their L&I premiums.
Program goals

- Reduce claim frequency and severity
- Lower the experience factor for all members
- Reduce overall worker’s compensation costs
Member benefits
- Complete management of all L&I claims
- Online access to all materials relating to your individual city/town L&I claims
- On site loss control and risk management consultation providing assistance as safety program, incident review, training, educational/training materials, etc.
- Management and distribution of potential premium refunds
- Technical assistance in creating or re-energizing your employee safety and loss control program.
- Complete management of your worker comp claim from start to close of claim.
- Management of your return to work or light duty program.
- Review of all claims submitted to ensure accuracy of all state determinations and findings.
- Interface with state L&I claims personnel on your city’s behalf.
- Regional staff training.

Membership criteria
- Member of AWC
- In good standing with L&I
- Adoption of the AWC membership agreement
- Qualified non-city entities may also join the pool.
- Once a year attendance at a regional training workshop
- Return to work/light duty policy (AWC assists in creating a return to work policy)
Fees
- AWC charges 6.5% of last years L&I premium, no other costs as with other programs.
- A portion or all of the fee will be refunded to the member the following year if the group receives a refund from L&I.
- Refunds are performance based – the better a members experience, the greater the refund.
Governance
An advisory committee composed of seven geographically dispersed cities assists the Retro Board of Directors develop polices, operating procedures and member underwriting.
