Streamlined Sales Tax

Cities are encouraged to review sourcing impact data and notify DOR with any questions by November 6

At the October 1 meeting, the Streamlined Sales Tax (SST) mitigation advisory committee recommended that the Department of Revenue (DOR) finalize calculations for the base year in time for the December 2009 distributions. In order for that to occur, additional questions regarding the data must be sent to DOR by early November.

DOR sent preliminary calculations for an annual estimate of the base year for future mitigation calculations with the data for the September 30 distributions. It is based on a recalculation of the impacts using corrected data, rather than using the data sent with each individual quarterly mitigation calculation.

Cities are highly encouraged to review the detail information provided in the confidential data on local sourcing impacts by business and report to DOR businesses that were incorrectly included if they would have impacted mitigation calculations.

The deadline for changes to the data to be incorporated into the final calculation of the base year for future mitigation will be November 6.

DOR uses a secure e-mail system to communicate with one contact person per city about confidential detailed-taxpayer information files that were used to determine quarterly mitigation payments. DOR's guidance regarding reviewing and communicating about that information is available in How to Read the Mitigation Detail Files.

If you have questions about who in your city has received the secure e-mail with the preliminary data, please contact Sheila Gall of AWC at sheilag@awcnet.org or (360) 753-4137.
