Strategic Planning Elements that Work

1.  Know where you are going - VISION.

2.  Involve people - Board, Council, managers, staff, committees etc.

3. Create strategic initiatives necessary for success - what do we have to  do to be successful?

4. Establish clear priorities amongst the strategic initiatives

5. Create action plans around each initiative - The WHAT, HOW, WHO, WHEN AND SUCCESS MEASURES!

6. Align the Action Plans with the organization - The "Are we doing the right things?" piece.

7. Check your operating environment - what is happening nationally, statewide, locally, in business and community (trends, regulations).

8.  Formulate an organizational MISSION STATEMENT - Why are we here?

9. Integrate the STRATEGIC PLAN into all aspects of the  organization.

10. Build a reporting-monitoring and change system.

11. Report progress, problems and changes.

12. Commit, focus, communicate, do!
