As part of AWC’s mission to help create & maintain livable cities and town throughout the state, AWC works to help recognize individual and citywide achievements that improve local communities as well as leadership in city halls throughout our state.
To help accomplish this goal, AWC offers the following programs.
AWC’s Certificate of Municipal Leadership (CML) program strives to encourage local elected officials to seek professional development opportunities that will: 1) Provide core knowledge necessary for municipal governance; 2) Provide high-level technical training to solve critical municipal issues, and; 3) Develop and strengthen local elected officials’ leadership skills.

AWC’s Municipal Excellence Awards promote and recognize innovative and effective city government programs that significantly improve the quality of life in local communities. Whether a city has overcome funding obstacles to make infrastructure improvements or created a unique collaborate partnership within their region, you can find projects in the searchable Awards database that might benefit your community.

This program recognizes cities that achieve a standard of excellence in employee health promotion. These standards serve as a guidepost for cities to follow in designing quality wellness programs and encourage a continued commitment to healthy employees and a healthy workplace.

AWC presents civic service awards each year to city officials who have retired after 20 or more years of service to their city. Elected officials, city managers and administrators, city clerks, senior department directors and city attorneys (elected or appointed) who have retired are eligible.
