Tax & Licensing Simplification Act – What you need to know webinar

At the request of Governor Gregoire, legislation (SB 6176/HB 2940) to implement her tax simplification plan was introduced on January 13.
Major bill components include the mandatory issuance and renewal of the business license through the Department of Revenues Business Licensing System and the state collection and administration of the city business and occupation tax. This bill has significant financial and policy impacts to cities including:
- Loss of local control of this important revenue stream.
- Loss of revenue.
- Possible future changes to this authority originating from the Legislature that may be adverse to city interests.
