Training & Education

Public Works/Parks & Recreation Liability

August 9 – DuPont
City Hall
1700 Civic Drive
DuPont, WA 98327

Streets, sidewalks, fresh water pipes, sewer systems, parks and playgrounds are all basic to most cities. More and more towns are sponsoring or encouraging community events such as farmer’s markets, concerts, car shows, parades, and festivals to help generate a sense of community, and as a source for economic gains. However, each of these municipal functions and events can contribute to accidents and create liability or lawsuits. This seminar focuses on various aspects of related laws and risk management related to public works and parks/recreation functions. Real-life case studies are used to reinforce key points of the seminar.

Areas covered are:

  • Contracts and agreements
  • Sidewalk and streets
  • Sewer and water systems
  • Park and playgrounds
  • Recreational immunity statute
  • Using volunteers
  • Special events

This workshop is for mayors in mayor-council cities, public works department head, parks & recreation department head, supervisors, lead employees, and employees on a supervisor promotional list. The seminar is also open to non-municipal government employees who are in these roles.
