Rep. Clibborn to release transportation revenue proposal this week

The idea of a transportation revenue package is gaining momentum in Olympia. A letter from 44 mayors was sent to Governor Inslee and legislative leaders this week, urging them to support a statewide transportation revenue package. The idea also has broad support from a coalition of business, labor, and environmental organizations.

As reported in the Seattle Times on February 13, Rep. Judy Clibborn (D-Mercer Island), Chair of the House Transportation Committee, plans to roll out a $6 billion transportation revenue package this week. AWC members had the opportunity to hear directly from Rep. Clibborn about the proposal during our City Legislative Action Conference. She shared plans to direct funds to cities for purposes such as street maintenance and preservation and stormwater management costs.

As with the rest of the state transportation system, city transportation needs are significant. To begin to address these needs, in any transportation proposal, cities are seeking a local share of any gas tax increase, with direct distribution, enhanced grant funding, and local transportation revenue options.
