Still Curious? January 28 question responses

On January 28, we asked “If you built a new city or town hall in the last 10 years, did you finance construction with typical municipal bonds, 63/20 financing, or some other financing? What was your approximate cost per square foot for construction (including parking but excluding land costs)?“ We heard from two cities:
  • Medina – completed a city hall project in 2012. Their project was undertaken without using any financing and involved rebuilding about 80% of their original c.1913 city hall.
  • Tumwater – project included a 5,000 s.f. expansion to City Hall for police and renovation of 5,000 s.f. of existing police space. Renovation was about $240/s.f. and new construction was about $460/s.f. City passed a permanent lid lift and project was financed by a loan from the State Local Program. Total financed was $4 million, of which $3.5 was this project.
If you have a city hall project you’d like to tell us about, please send your info and we’ll continue to build this dataset.
