Long legislative session almost comes to an end

Two-year operating and capital budgets were passed and signed by the Governor yesterday just before midnight. A government shutdown has been avoided, but session isn't over due to disagreement on how to suspend the class size initiative. A new transportation revenue bill has passed both chambers, but the House still needs to vote on the project list and bonds.

AWC announces new CEO

AWC's Board of Directors announced that Peter B. King will be AWC's next Chief Executive Officer. Peter started his career with AWC and was on staff for 11 years, eventually holding the position of Director of Operations. Now, after many years of successful nonprofit and municipal association management experience, Peter returns to AWC as the fifth leader in the association's 82-year history.

AWC comments on ACA high cost plan excise tax

Washington cities may be disproportionately impacted by the Affordable Care Act's excise tax on high cost health coverage. Because of this concern, AWC submitted comments, on behalf of its member cities and towns, to the IRS on Notice 2015-16 regarding the ACA's High Cost Plan Excise Tax.
