Get ready for Walktober!

Walking is simple, fun, great for fitness and stress relief, and autumn is a beautiful season for walking! Our fall wellness challenge, Walktober, is coming soon. Here are some details to help you start planning:

  • The coordinator orientation webinar is on August 18. Register now!
  • A coordinator kit will be available on our website, also on August 18.
  • Walktober runs from October 1 through October 31.
  • This is a digital campaign that can be accessed with a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
  • Each participant needs to join Walktober through their Health Central account. Once they’ve registered they can download the Walktober app and bypass Health Central.
  • Participants may begin registering on September 1. Registration will close October 9.
  • During Walktober, participants can choose to track either steps or minutes of activity.
  • Participants who want to swim, bike, do tai chi or some other activity may do so.
  • Participants can choose to join a team competition or participate as an individual.
  • The Walktober app includes recipes, inspiring articles, and other great features.
  • Walktober satisfies the WellCity Award requirement to offer a behavior change campaign (Standard 8.3).

And, just for fun, we have a special prize drawing for all you dedicated, hard-working wellness coordinators who go all out to promote Walktober. One lucky winner will win a FitBit Alta! Here’s what you need to do to be entered:

  • Attend the live or recorded Walktober webinar on August 18.
  • Promote Walktober registration August 19 to September 30.
  • Email Niki by October 1 with a description and samples of how you promoted Walktober.

We will enter your name one time for each of the following ways you promote Walktober:

  • Bulletin board (send us a picture of the board)
  • Staff meeting presentation (provide agenda)
  • Supervisor promoted a Walk/Talk meeting (provide picture or meeting invite)
  • Promotional email (forward email for promotion)
  • Group kickoff event using a MapWalk route for the participants (send us the map)
  • Your own creative idea!

Remember, your creative promotion of Walktober can earn the WellCity Award point for Standard 8.7: Describe a creative promotional strategy, other than incentives, used to increase activity enrollment, completion, or health related changes.
