Help employees learn the difference between the common cold and the flu

As cold and flu season approaches, encourage employees to visit Health Central at awctrust.org to learn more about preventing and combatting these and other seasonal illnesses. There, they can view the differences between the common cold and the flu, as well as use Symptom Checker to decide what to do about their symptoms and when to see a health care professional.

Health information

Sometimes it can be tough to distinguish between the flu and a common cold. Encourage employees to read about the signs and symptoms of each illness in Health Topics on Health Central. If they’re experiencing symptoms, they can even take the Cold and Flu Assessment to help determine whether they have minor sniffles or a potentially serious flu.

Prevention is key

Encourage employees to take preventative actions:

  • Discuss with their health care provider whether a flu shot is right for them
  • Wash their hands frequently, lathering for at least 20 seconds per wash
  • Disinfect their work areas regularly, especially desks and keyboards
