New broadband infrastructure is coming. Is your city ready?

In the next few years, the broadband industry will be investing billions of dollars to meet the growing demand for faster speed internet, in both the wired and wireless space. A significant portion of that investment will go towards new “small cell” wireless facilities in cities.

Now is the time to prepare for the rollout of this new infrastructure. You may need to modify or adopt new codes, permitting processes and franchises in addition to educating city councilmembers, planning, and public works staff in order to accommodate new small cell technologies while protecting your city’s interests. This webinar will help you on your way.

During the legislative session, the wireless industry advocated for legislation that significantly preempted cities and removed local control over small cell infrastructure. Thankfully, and due to a lot of opposition lobbying, the legislation failed. However, we expect the legislation to return next year. To fend off future preemption efforts, we are strongly encouraging cities to take action NOW!

  • Learn what are small cells and how they differ from macro facilities
  • Understand the current state of the law
  • Get pointers on working with the telecommunications industry
  • Know next steps for permitting, franchising and ordinance adoption
  • Find out where to access additional resources
