Bill concerning emergency management notices in other languages on the move, AWC working on amendments

SB 6530, sponsored by Sen. Bob Hasegawa (D-Beacon Hill), would require local emergency management departments in communities where at least five percent of the population speaks a language other than English to provide written and verbal notices of public health, safety, or welfare risks in the languages represented in the community.

Hearing scheduled for bill that requires cities to enter into binding mediation in certain circumstances

A new bill proposed by Sen. Pam Roach (R-Auburn) would require a city, town or county to enter into mediation if another city, town or county brings forward a request for mediation.

Deadline reminder: Send any property disclosure requirements to MRSC

During the 2015 session the legislature passed EHB 2122 which relates primarily to Real Estate Excise Tax (REET) authority, but the bill also contains new requirements that apply to cities (or counties) that have in place, or are contemplating enacting, regulations that require certain disclosures by landlords and sellers of real property to buyers and tenants regarding the property and the surrounding area.

New districting bill gets public hearing

On Thursday, July 11, a hearing was held in Senate Government Operations & Security Committee on a new districting bill. SB 6129, sponsored by Senator Pam Roach (R-Auburn), allows cities, code cities and counties to forms districts and hold district-based elections in general elections.
