SB 5656 requires all cities with business licenses to convert to the state’s business licensing system (BLS), and SB 5688 requires cities with B&O taxes to use the state tax classifications.

Maintaining expanded uses of lodging taxes

This AWC priority bill maintains the current uses for local hotel-motel, or lodging, tax revenue. In 2007, the Legislature granted the following new uses:

  • Funding the operation of special events and/or festivals designed to attract tourists (as opposed to “marketing”); and
  • Funding the operations and capital expenditures of tourism-related facilities owned by non-profit organizations.
