Increasing penalties for vehicle prowlers who are repeat offenders

On January 25, the Senate Law & Justice Committee heard testimony on SB 5053, which increases penalties for vehicle prowlers. This bill elevates a conviction of Vehicle Prowl in the Second Degree from a gross misdemeanor to a Class C felony if it’s the third or subsequent offence. Sheriff John Lovick from Snohomish County testified that it’s time for the Legislature to address vehicle prowl like auto theft.

Similar to the above bill, HB 1305 will be heard by the House Public Safety Committee at 10am on January 31. HB 1305 is the same language as the above bill, except the charge is referred to as Vehicle Prowling 2 instead of just Vehicle Prowling. AWC supports increased penalties for vehicle prowlers.
