Online Lodging Tax Reporting Coming Soon

The 2013 legislation that maintained most uses of lodging tax revenue, HB 1253, requires cities and counties with a lodging tax to make annual reports to the Joint Legislative Audit & Review Committee (JLARC) instead of the Department of Commerce.

JLARC has been developing a web-based reporting system and a number of cities and counties have tested the system over the past few months. JLARC expects to make the system available to municipalities with a lodging tax next month, and reporting will be due in early 2015.

JLARC is aware that some jurisdictions pool lodging tax dollars and allocate money on a county-wide basis. In an effort to ensure the reporting system works for all jurisdictions, please let JLARC's Mark Fleming know if your city pools and allocates lodging tax funds with other jurisdictions.

We will continue to provide updates about the reporting system. More information about the reporting requirements and other changes to the lodging tax can be found in AWC's Lodging Taxes Fact Sheet and the MRSC Insight.
