Fees for electronic financial reporting

A new proposal to establish a mandatory electronic filing system for elected officials, political committees, and lobbyists to report to the Public Disclosure Commission (PDC) will be heard in the House Government Operations & Elections Committee on Wednesday, January 16. Unlike last year’s bill which required all elected officials to pay a $200 annual fee for filing a PDC financial statement, HB 1005 exempts elected officials earning less than $10,000 per year. This exemption is an attempt to address the concerns of numerous city representatives who receive very little financial compensation for their hard work as elected officials. The bill also makes a number of other changes to the Public Disclosure Commission, including transferring the responsibilities of the Executive Ethics Board to the PDC.
