Transportation Benefit District fix moves forward

With on-going negotiations on a transportation revenue package holding up consideration of any local transportation revenue options, one minor bill related to Transportation Benefit Districts (TBDs) has passed the House and moved to the Senate. HB 1892 would fix an unintended flaw in the current TBD statute whereby a county that wants to adopt a TBD and impose a $20 vehicle fee is unable to do so because another jurisdiction within the county has already adopted the $20 vehicle fee. This is the situation in Thurston County. The bill addresses the problem by allowing for the establishment of a new countywide TBD that excludes jurisdictions already imposing the $20 fee.
