Automated traffic safety cameras could continue to detect speed violators in certain jurisdictions

The cities of Seattle and Tacoma have been part of a pilot project allowing them to use automated traffic cameras to capture speed violators outside of school speed zones. The camera can only take a picture of the vehicle and the license plate while the infraction is occurring and must not reveal the face of the driver or passengers. HB 2426 would end the pilot project and allow the use of the cameras to continue.

AWC supports this bill and it is scheduled to be heard February 24 at 3:30pm in the Senate Transportation Committee.
