Duplicate signatures on local initiatives

Two bills addressing duplicate signatures on petitions to local governments passed the House this week. State statute currently provides that if a person signs a local petition more than once, no signature is counted for that person. However, courts have ruled that the original signature should be counted and subsequent signatures stricken. HB 2296 and HB 2215 both bring the RCW in line with the court decisions and specify that one signature should be counted.
