Public Works Trust Fund bills move out of committee

After the impressive city presence at the hearing on Rep. Derek Stanford’s (D-Bothell) HB 2244, the House Capital Budget Committee passed the bill out of committee and it is now in the House Appropriations Committee. This is the bill that restores the diverted revenues back to the Public Works Assistance Account at the end of this biennium. Encourage your legislators in the House to keep moving this bill!

Another bill dealing with the Public Works Trust Fund (PWTF) is SHB 1484 is making its way through the process. While this bill makes several good changes to the administration of the program, there are a couple of provisions that are potentially troubling. These are related to requiring higher interest rates on PWTF loans and shifting all eligible projects to federally-funded drinking water and clean water revolving funds. AWC and other stakeholders are working with the prime sponsor to improve these provisions.

Senator Ann Rivers introduced SB 6546, which is a companion to HB 2244. The bill has strong bipartisan support with an impressive 26 sponsors! This bill has not yet been scheduled for public hearing.
