House committee to hold hearing on Public Works Trust Fund bills

On Thursday, January 30 at 1:30pm the House Capital Budget Committee will hold a hearing on HB 2244 sponsored by Rep. Stanford (D-Bothell). The bill is aimed at restoring much of the funding to the Public Works Trust Fund beginning in 2015. Specifically it would end the diversion of all the tax revenues (i.e. redirect them back to the Public Works Assistance Account) beginning July 1, 2015. The overall effect will reduce the revenue diversions down to two years rather than the six that was adopted last year to help legislators balance the general fund budget.

In addition there will be a hearing on HJR 4215, a constitutional amendment, sponsored by Rep. Warnick (R-Moses Lake) declaring that revenues from the public works assistance account could only be used for “the purpose of funding local government public works projects.”

We appreciate that the Committee Chair, Rep. Dunshee (D–Snohomish) chose to schedule this hearing while hundreds of city officials will be in town for AWC’s City Action Days. We hope to have a large contingent there to show their support for restoring the Public Works Trust Fund. If your city is planning to testify at this hearing it would be helpful for us to know so we can help to coordinate. You can indicate your interest by e-mailing Dave Catterson.
