A new liquor license would let patrons have alcohol in fairgrounds

HB 2154 creates a new type of liquor license specific to fairs. Current law allows fairs to sell beer, wine and spirits in sanctioned areas like beer gardens. The prime sponsor, Rep. Dahlquist (D-Enumclaw) believes these fairs are unique and designed for patrons to walk freely throughout the grounds. Therefore, HB 2154 allows the fair to sell beer, wine and spirits that can be consumed throughout the fairgrounds.

There are a number of public safety concerns with the proposal including increased opportunities for access to alcohol for minors.

Law enforcement in opposing the bill and AWC will remain neutral but will continue to monitor any changes. It is scheduled for January 27 at 1:30 in the House Government Accountability & Oversight Committee.
