Homeless housing funding endangered

AWC testified in favor of a proposal (HB 2368) from Rep. Sawyer (D-Tacoma) that would remove the sunset on several critical fees that fund the state and local homeless assistance programs. The recording fees are split between the state and local governments and fund critical homeless shelters and other assistance programs in communities across the state. These funds are scheduled to phase out in 2015 and 2017, and if that were to happen there would be a $68 million per biennium reduction (63 percent) in this support statewide. We will continue to work with stakeholders to advance this funding. If you have questions or comments, please contact Carl Schroeder.
