Requiring that employees accumulate paid vacation time

A new bill would require employers to provide paid vacation accrual for all employees working at least 20 hours a week. The provision requires an employer to offer vacation leave after the employee has worked for six months. After that, the employee earns five days of vacation for a twelve-month period, including the first six months the employee worked. Earned vacation is increased incrementally thereafter.

Questions remain on how this will impact local government employers and collective bargaining agreements.

HB 2238 will be heard January 24 at 1:30pm in the House Labor& Workforce Development committee.
