New property owner approval or vote requirements for annexations

HB 1854 would require a public vote approved by 60 percent of the voters or approval of property owners of at least 70 percent of the assessed value of the area to be annexed for all or the most commonly used methods of annexation. This bill was introduced last session but never had a public hearing. It has now been scheduled for a hearing before the House Local Government Committee on January 23 at 10 am.
