Recommendations for regulating medical marijuana released

As part of a budget proviso passed by the legislature earlier this year, the Liquor Control Board (LCB) along with the Department of Health and Department of Revenue were tasked with developing recommendations dealing with the interaction of the medical marijuana market with the recreational marijuana market.

On October 21, these agencies issued a recommendation that address age limits, requirements for medical marijuana gardens, possession limits and a registry for patients and their providers. The agencies recommended reducing the amount of marijuana qualified patients can possesses and requiring that patients receive an in-person exam by a qualified health care provider before being authorized to use medical marijuana. LCB states that these recommendations reflect Washington State’s commitment to address the concerns outlined in the U.S. Attorney General Eric Holders’ memo released in August.

More information can be found on the LCB website. For questions or comments please contact Candice Bock or Brittany Sill.
