Personnel bills that passed

Here’s a brief overview of personnel related bills that passed that are of significant interest to cities, and/or will require cities to take action. Click on the bill numbers for more information

Bill Title Description
HB 1180 Death benefits for volunteer firefighters and reserve officers Increases the lump-sum death benefit that is paid to survivors of these individuals who die as a result of injuries or sickness related to performance of duties. Received unanimous support in both houses.
HB 1903 Providing unemployment insurance benefit charging relief for part-time employers who continue to employ a claimant on a part-time basis This would allow an employer to request relief form benefit chargers in certain circumstances where they employ a person on a part-time basis who qualified for two consecutive claims where wages were attributable to at least one employer who employed the claimant in both base years.
SB 5211 Concerning social networking accounts and profiles Known as the “Facebook Bill”, this would prohibit employers from requesting login information to personal social networking accounts. Does have provisions allowing employers to request the share of content from these sites.
SB 5332 Modifying the percentage of votes required to approve benefit charges for fire protection districts Changes the language from voter approval by 60 percent majority to a simple majority.
