Cities make a strong showing at transportation revenue hearings

Local elected officials showed up in large numbers to voice support for new transportation revenue in both the House on Friday, April 19 and in the Senate on Tuesday, April 23. Mayors and councilmembers partnered with business, economic development interests, and community groups to advocate for funding of projects and providing local option tools to address congestion and maintenance of existing facilities. By AWC’s count (and we could have missed folks) there were 21 mayors and councilmembers testifying in the House. Eight testified in the Senate with less than 24 hours notice of the public hearing.

Don Gerend, AWC President, Mayor, Sammamish (48:55–50:21)

Ryan Mello, Councilmember, Tacoma (45:32–47:15)

SHB 1954 passed out of the House Transportation Committee on Monday, April 22 with no word yet on when it will go to a floor vote.

AWC would like to thank all of you who have been talking to your legislators about the importance of maintaining and enhancing our transportation systems. And special thanks to those of you listed below who came to Olympia to testify.
