Energy facility siting bill moves out of the House

HB 1374 would significantly change the way that energy facilities are sited and permitted in Washington state. It moved out of the House on March 12, with a 53-44 vote.

Of greatest concern to cities, the bill would establish statewide energy facility standards, environmental review timelines, and notice requirements that would supersede local standards and processes. At this time it is unclear how this bill will be received in the Senate. It has been referred to the Senate Energy, Environment & Telecommunications Committee but has not yet been scheduled for a public hearing.
