Electric vehicle charging station bill moves to House

SSB 5849 passed out of the Senate on March 13 and has been referred to the House Transportation Committee. The bill establishes a new parking infraction with a penalty of $124 for parking a vehicle in an electric vehicle charging station if the vehicle is not connected to the charging equipment. The parking infraction applies to both public and private charging stations.

The bill specifies that in order for this infraction to apply, the electric vehicle charging station must be indicated by vertical signage indicating that parking is only for electric vehicles that are charging. The parking space must also be indicated by green pavement markings.
