Priority lodging tax bills await action in both chambers

The AWC priority bills that maintain the current uses of local lodging tax revenue, HB 1253 and SB 5262, are both eligible for a full vote in their respective chambers. The bills have been amended in different ways as they have moved through the legislative process. The House bill is currently better for cities, as the Senate version defines “tourist” in a way that we believe is too restrictive for festivals and local attractions. However, we are working to keep both bills alive past next week’s cutoff, so we can continue to resolve differences among stakeholders.

If retaining the ability to fund festivals, special events, and non-profit tourism facilities is important to your city, please contact your legislators and ask for their support to keep these bills moving.
