Reducing the frequency of local sales tax changes

The House and Senate continue to consider companion bills that would reduce the number of times per year local governments can change their sales tax rates.

The Senate version, SB 5697, specifies that changes may only take effect twice each year: April 1 and October 1. The House version, HB 1604, allows changes to take effect three times each year: January 1, April 1, and July 1.

AWC is supporting the House version, as limiting sales tax changes to two times per year delays city ability to make changes following an election or annexation.
