Vehicle prowl crackdown bill is on the move

SB 5053 passed through the Senate and is scheduled for a hearing in the House Public Safety Committee March 5 at 8:30am.

The bill elevates a conviction of vehicle prowl in the second degree from a gross misdemeanor to a Class C felony if it’s the third or subsequent offense. The bill was amended in committee to clarify that if a person prowls multiple vehicles and all of those acts are placed on one charging document, it only counts as one offense. In other words, vehicle prowl incidents that occur on the same date will not count as multiple offenses. AWC continues to support this bill as a way to reduce car prowl activity.
