Changes to binding interest arbitration standards to be heard this week – February 22

SB 5733 is up for a hearing in the Senate Commerce and Labor committee February 22 at 8 am. This bill would add the following criteria to the guidelines that an arbitration panel shall consider:

  • Budget priorities of the city
  • Financial and budgetary constraints
  • Internal equity within the organization

The current factors that a panel shall consider include wages, hours, cost of living, and the suggested stipulations of both parties.

Additionally the bill clarifies that a number of factors can be considering in determining “like employer” such as population size, financial conditions, workforce size, and assessed valuation.
