Criminal Justice Training Commission seeks to ensure funding for its firing range

Identical bills in the House and Senate – HB 1613 and SB 5516 – seek to help the Criminal Justice Training Commission (CJTC) maintain its firing range. Currently when the CJTC rents out their firing range facility for various purposes, the rent paid goes into the state general fund. Therefore, there is no return from renting out the facility, and no funding to repair or maintain the facility after the many uses by outside groups. To fix this, a special account will be created for the funds collected from renting out the facility so CJTC can use the funds to repair and maintain the firing range. AWC supports these measures and recognizes the importance of the CJTC in training our many municipal law enforcement officers.

HB 1613 was heard on February 14, and SB 5516 has a hearing on February 18 at 1:30pm in the Senate Law & Justice Committee.
