AWC liquor revenue bill moves

Last Tuesday, the bill that restores local liquor revenue passed the House Local Government Committee and was referred to the House Appropriations Committee. We expect local government liquor revenue will be part of the state’s larger budget discussion.

With the implementation of liquor privatization, there was some question about how much revenue local governments would see if the historic liquor profit-sharing distribution were reinstated. The Liquor Control Board recently provided estimates that local governments would receive an additional $9.8 million in liquor profits in the 2013-2015 biennium and an additional $10.5 million in the 2013-2015 biennium. This is in addition to restoring the annual $10 million in liquor taxes that the state permanently diverted last year.
