Preliminary budget and policy priorities for affordable housing and homelessness

Several months ago, Governor Inslee asked the Housing Alliance and AWC to send housing and homelessness priorities to him for the 2017 legislative session. We’ve been working together to develop shared priorities and have communicated them to the Governor’s office. Please note that both AWC and the Housing Alliance are mid-process in setting our final legislative priorities, so we will follow up with additional details on these items when those processes conclude. Currently, affordable housing and homelessness priorities include:

  • Eliminate the sunset and increase the document recording fees that provide revenue for homelessness and affordable housing services.
  • $200 million biennial investment in the Housing Trust Fund.
  • Ensure full Operating Budget authority for the 1115 Medicaid Waiver for Permanent Supportive Housing.
  • Create new local options to generate revenue for homeless services and for capital construction of affordable housing, and improve standing options to make implementation easier.
