Study on road-rail conflicts begins

The Joint Legislative Committee (JTC) has started an interim study on road-rail conflicts in cities. The study’s goal is to develop a systems based approach for prioritizing and addressing at-grade crossing impacts and needs on a statewide basis. The work plan for the study includes creating a database of problematic crossings across the state. Legislators will be briefed on the study at the JTC meeting at the AWC Conference in Everett on June 21. You can find a draft agenda here.

The study includes an advisory panel of relevant stakeholders. AWC President Paul Roberts and AWC Board Member Sean Guard will represent cities on the panel. Those meetings begin on May 23 and will continue throughout the study. AWC staff will also be integral to the study and will participate in a staff work group. A draft report will be due at the end of the year.
