Police body-worn camera passes Senate

HB 2362 regarding policy body-worn cameras passed the Senate just prior to the latest cutoff. One of the bill changes made in the Senate was language added to encourage involvement by city councils and the public when a city is opting to implement body-worn cameras. AWC believes this language is workable and does create a mandate, and that council and community involvement is a valuable part of any process.

AWC strongly supports this bill as an important first step in granting greater privacy protections and more clarity about how the video recordings will be treated under the Public Records Act.

Because the bill was amended by the Senate, the House will have to vote to concur. We encourage cities to let your House members know that we support this bill and ask them to concur with the changes made by the Senate.
